SUMMARY:Young Professionals Immersive Workshop: How to Build a Refugee Camp
DESCRIPTION:Registration for this event has closed. Please contact Jacob Connell at jconnell@ccwa.org or (216) 255-9009 with questions. \nHosted by the Carter E. Strang Young Professionals Advisory Committee (YPAC)\, CCWA’s popular How to Build a Refugee Camp workshop is back! This is a fantastic opportunity for young professionals to gain a better sense of the challenges refugees face\, and how the international community can help. Elizabeth Colvin\, CCWA’s Director of Global Education\, will lead a hands-on workshop analyzing the policies that protect refugees and internally displaced persons\, as well as demonstrating how to ethically build the camps that house them. \nWe are delighted to be joined by Patrick Kearns\, Executive Director at Re:Source Cleveland\, who will share his personal experiences living and working in the Umphium Mai refugee camp on the Thai-Myanmar border. Before his time at Re:Source Cleveland (formerly The Refugee Response)\, Mr. Kearns spent 14 years working in Southeast Asia supporting education for refugees and stateless youth in various capacities. As a primer for the workshop\, Mr. Kearns will touch on the realities of the refugee experience and how young professionals in Cleveland can best support refugees\, both in their communities and abroad. \nSpace is limited\, so sign up now! \nThis workshop will be held in the Learning Commons on the second floor of the Cleveland Public Library – Louis Stokes Wing (525 Superior Ave\, Cleveland\, OH 44114). Light refreshments will be provided.
