SUMMARY:"The Troubles" in Northern Ireland: Conflict Resolution & Peacebuilding
DESCRIPTION:This half-day interactive workshop will be a deep dive into the history\, politics and peacebuilding process of “the Troubles” in Northern Ireland. The workshop will build a strong knowledge of the Northern Ireland conflict and will strengthen conflict resolution competencies\, which can be utilized in the classroom. \nWe will share resources for educators to teach students the qualities of an effective mediator\, to understand the challenges of mediation\, to consider the importance of conflict resolution\, and to improve students’ mediation skills. The workshop is open to the community; non-educators will participate in a hands-on activity. We encourage students interested in exploring conflict resolution as well as students of political science\, foreign affairs\, and history to attend the workshop. \nContact hours for educator license renewal are available. All participants will have the opportunity to attend the Global Impact Award event\, honoring Senator George J. Mitchell\, at a discounted price. \nBreakfast and snacks will be provided. \n  \nLocation: \nMurphy Room\, Lombardo Student Center\, John Carroll University \nParticipants should enter at the S. Belvoir Blvd. entrance and announce themselves as guests for this program at the guard house.
