Rule of Law and Judicial Reform
September 6, 2017 - September 9, 2017
This International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), composed of six delegates from Egypt, will examine U.S. commitment to the promotion of transparency, ethics, and judicial independence in a democracy. Meetings and site visits will highlight the judiciary’s role in preserving democratic processes such as due process, trial by jury, right to representation and a fair trial, the role of the public defender, the appeals process, judicial appointments/elections, and government accountability. In addition to Cleveland, participants will travel to Washington, DC; Baltimore, Maryland; Jacksonville, Florida; and Reno, Nevada.
Each year, over 300 professionals from around the world visit Northeast Ohio through IVLP. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, these visitors have been identified by U.S. embassies as emerging leaders in their fields. Over 50 Nobel Laureates and 335 current or former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government are alumni of this program.
By connecting with foreign leaders we strengthen Northeast Ohio’s commercial, cultural, and educational ties with the rest of the world. For more information, contact Katie Ferman, Program Officer, at firstname.lastname@example.org or click here. To get involved as a Citizen Diplomat, click here.
