With troubles in Europe’s East only to get worse after Sochi, Damon Wilson will focus on what’s happening on the frontiers of freedom in Europe and Eurasia, why this matters to the U.S., and what the U.S. strategy on Europe’s East should be.

His areas of expertise include NATO, transatlantic relations, Central and Eastern Europe, and national security issues. From 2007 to 2009, Wilson served as special assistant to the president and senior director for European affairs at the National Security Council. He played a leading role in developing and coordinating US government efforts to work with Europe on global challenges. He managed interagency policy on NATO, the European Union, Georgia, Ukraine, the Balkans, Eurasian energy security, and Turkey, and planned numerous presidential visits to Europe, including US-European Union and NATO summits. Previously, Wilson served at the US embassy in Baghdad as the executive secretary and chief of staff. Prior to this posting, he worked at the National Security Council as the director for Central, Eastern, and Northern European affairs from 2004 to 2006. From 2001 to 2004, Wilson served as deputy director of the Private Office of the NATO Secretary General. Prior to serving in Brussels, Wilson worked in the US Department of State’s Office of European Security and Political Affairs.
