Leading and Managing Municipal Government

January 18, 2018 - January 23, 2018

Six municipal mayors from Libya will be travelling to Northeast Ohio to learn how Cleveland and Cuyahoga County promote strong and accountable local government through cooperation and effective policy making. In addition to a case study highlighting reform efforts after the 2011 Cuyahoga County corruption scandal, visitors will engage local mayors and city administrators to share perspectives on today’s opportunities and challenges facing municipalities. Engagement with Cleveland City Council, the Cuyahoga County Inspector General’s Office, the Citizens League of Greater Cleveland, and government officials will help advance local municipal leadership throughout Libya.

International Visitor Leadership (IVLP) Program

Each year, over 300 professionals from around the world visit Northeast Ohio through IVLP. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, these visitors have been identified by U.S. embassies as emerging leaders in their fields. Over 50 Nobel Laureates and 335 current or former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government are alumni of this program.

By connecting with foreign leaders we strengthen Northeast Ohio’s commercial, cultural, and educational ties with the rest of the world. For more information, contact Katie Ferman, Program Officer, at or click here. To get involved as a Citizen Diplomat, click here.
