Deputy Governors’ Oversight and Advisory Capacity
June 21, 2018 - June 27, 2018
In this IVLP program, a group of deputy governors from Afghanistan will explore connections between federal, state and local governments, and the principles of representative democracy. While in Cleveland, the program will focus on the major corruption case that occurred in Cuyahoga County in 2008 that involved County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora and over 50 other local officials. Visitors will meet with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, the Citizens’ League of Greater Cleveland, and the Cuyahoga County Inspector General to investigate how Cleveland addressed this local case of corruption and instituted necessary reforms.
International Visitor Leadership (IVLP) Program
Each year, over 300 professionals from around the world visit Northeast Ohio through IVLP. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, these visitors have been identified by U.S. embassies as emerging leaders in their fields. Over 50 Nobel Laureates and 335 current or former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government are alumni of this program.
By connecting with foreign leaders we strengthen Northeast Ohio’s commercial, cultural, and educational ties with the rest of the world. For more information, contact Katie Ferman, Program Officer, at firstname.lastname@example.org or click here. To get involved as a Citizen Diplomat, click here.
