Data Privacy and Protection

April 13, 2016 - April 16, 2016

The Cleveland Council on World Affairs welcomes visitors from Europe this April for the program “Data Privacy and Protection in the United States.”  The visitors’ experience in Cleveland will illuminate the function of data privacy in public-private partnerships, the roles and responsibilities of the private sector in data security, and the interaction between data protection and civil liberties.

Visitors will meet with representatives from PNC Bank, the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio, lawyers specializing in prosecuting cyber crimes, and other various organizations and individuals that will engage on topics of data privacy and protection. Ultimately, this visit will examine U.S. policies regarding data privacy and protection, their relationship with public and private entities, and the interaction between data privacy and issues of terrorism and national security.

International Visitor Leadership (IVLP) Program

Each year, over 250 professionals from around the world visit Northeast Ohio through IVLP. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, these visitors have been identified by U.S. embassies as emerging leaders in their fields.  Over 50 Nobel Laureates and 335 current or former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government are alumni of this program.

By connecting with foreign leaders we strengthen Northeast Ohio’s commercial, cultural, and educational ties with the rest of the world. For more information, contact Katie Ferman, Program Officer, at or click here. To get involved as a Citizen Diplomat, click here.
