Community Event: Global Ramifications of Human Trafficking
December 16, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
St. Joseph Academy hosts an evening with former United Nations Representative Sr. Griselda Martinez Morales.
Please join St. Joseph Academy on December 16 at SJA for an evening with Sr. Griselda Martinez Morales, CSJ, as she shares her thoughts and experiences as the former UN representative of some 14,000 Sisters of St. Joseph from around the world. Sr. Griselda, who worked as a non-governmental organization (NGO) representative from September 2009 to July 2014, will be speaking about the global ramifications of human trafficking. While at the United Nations, Sr. Griselda sat on the Economic and Social Council, which dealt with the harsh realities of this moral plague.
Sr. Griselda’s presentation, which is free, will start at 7 p.m. It is the first in a series of speaking events in the next year as SJA celebrates its 125th anniversary of being a vibrant, valued and vital member of the Northeast Ohio educational community.
“Actually, I think that not only human trafficking is important, but everything that denies our brothers and sisters in the world their dignity, life, respect, peace, happiness, liberty or humanity,” shared Sr. Griselda. “My main interest while at the UN was to promote awareness that we are all citizens of the world, and the worldwide problems are our problems.”
The discussion of such highly charged emotional issues as human trafficking is important “because it is our mission to bring the voice of the marginalized” into the forefront of society, she said.
