The Happy Dog Takes on the World: China and Hong Kong Pro-Democracy Movement
February 3, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Our Happy Dog takes on the World series continues on March 3.
On February 19, China will celebrate its New Year – the Year of the Goat – and say good-bye to the Year of the Horse, a year marked by a number of significant tensions. These included a dispute that escalated with Vietnam over contested waters in the South China Sea, growing antagonism with Japan and, most recently in the news, the Hong Kong protests that took place in the fall.
What do these events tell us about where China is headed domestically? What factors (political, economic, social and environmental) drive these tensions? Join the Cleveland Council on World Affairs, The City Club of Cleveland, and International Partners in Mission for a panel discussion on how these recent events affect Chinese relations with the rest of the world, including its relationship with the United States.
Paul Schroeder, Ph.D., Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science, Case Western Reserve University
Qingshan Forrest Tan, Ph.D., Professor of Political Science, Cleveland State University
The discussion will be moderated by WCPN host/producer Tony Ganzer.
Location: The Happy Dog, 5801 Detroit Avenue, Cleveland, 44102
