Great Decisions
It is our pleasure to start a new discussion series for YPs called Great Decisions. The program's goal is to provide you with an opportunity to have informed discussions about an international issue with the help of a moderator. Great Decisions originates from the World Affairs Councils of America, a national network CCWA is part of.
Every year, a book called "Great Decisions" is published with several chapters in it, each focusing on a different international topic. Based on previous feedback, the YP committee selected three topics of interest for the past programming year: War Crimes, South Africa, and Endangered Children. The 2008-2009 season will be released soon!
To be prepared for the discussions, participants will read the chapter beforehand. CCWA purchased 25 books that can be borrowed but you may buy your own copy if you wish ($15).
What is different about Great Decisions?
1. Unlike other YP programs, reservations are required and seating is limited to 20 people!
2. You will have to do some "homework" and read the chapter (approximately 10 pages) before the discussion.
3. You can either borrow a book from CCWA or purchase your own. If you would like to borrow a CCWA book, all you have to do is come to our office and pick it up. You will have to return it to CCWA staff at the end of the discussion.
4. There will be a moderator at the discussion who is knowledgeable about the topic.
5. The discussions take place at a local, ethnic restaurant. You simply need to indicate your menu choice at the time of reservation. This way the discussion won't be interrupted by servers taking orders.
