    Samuel Jeffrey Carter is the Business Executive leading the Center for Future Banking and MIT partnership for Bank of America. He is responsible for aligning the research and all activities with MIT. Before this role, Jeff Carter led an effort for Bank of America examining the future strategy for leveraging the company’s vast information cloud, stores and platforms. Prior to Bank of America he held executive roles in multiple venture backed startups with experience in an IPO and several liquidity events. Carter loves multi channel work; strategy, creation and implementation and what he refers to as “deal making.” He has been recognized in numerous publications for his business and technical leadership, was awarded Chief Technology Officer of the month by InfoWorld in 2002, 40 Under 40 Innovator Award in 2004, and a nomination for the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year Award. He is involved in a variety of community service programs including the Arts and Science Council, Habitat for Humanity and the United Way. Jeff’s first business strategy book, “No-Limit” was published by Amacom in February 2008.

   Jerome E. Hass is Professor of Finance and Business Strategy at Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management, where he is the James B. Rubin Professor of Finance and the Alan Krause Faculty Fellow in Real Estate Finance.  He received a B.A. degree from St. Mary's University, Winona, Minnesota, an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton), and a Ph.D. degree in Economics from Carnegie-Mellon University.  At Cornell, he teaches or has taught graduate courses in corporate and managerial finance, security analysis and investment management, energy economics and regulation, and business strategy.  He has been a visiting professor at nine different institutions abroad.  


He is a member of the Boards of Directors of Selected Funds (a family of mutual funds) and Communis Fund of the Catholic Diocese of Rochester NY. Since 1983, Professor Hass has been a Special Consultant to National Economic Research Associates.  In that capacity he has been a consultant and/or expert witness on a variety of issues, including the cost of pharmaceutical products; the cost of capital and capital structures for oil and CO2 pipelines, crude oil tankers, electric utilities, and minority stockholder claims. He was previously Chief, Division of Economic Studies, at the Federal Power Commission and was Special Assistant to James R. Schlesinger at the Executive Office of the President of the United States. 


He is co-author of several books and articles and developed the Cornell Management Game (CMG), a computer-based business simulation that provides players the opportunity to improve their understanding of financial accounting, marketing, operations, finance, and business strategy in the context of a competitive environment.

   Owen Humpage is an economic advisor specializing in international economics in the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. His recent research has focused on central-bank interventions in exchange markets, dollarization in Latin America, and the sustainability of current-account deficits. Dr. Humpage joined the Bank as an economic analyst in 1973. He was promoted to economist in 1978 and to his present position in 1987. Dr. Humpage has lectured on economics at Case Western Reserve University, Oberlin College, Cleveland State University, and Baldwin-Wallace College.

A native Clevelander, Dr. Humpage received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Dayton, a master’s degree in economics from Miami University, and a doctorate in economics from Case Western Reserve University.



Richard W. (“Dick”) Pogue is Advisor at Jones Day, the nation’s second largest law firm.  He was Managing Partner in the period 1984-92, when it grew from 335 to 1,225 lawyers and from five domestic to 20 international Offices.  He spent almost 10 years (1994-2003) as Senior Advisor at the public relations firm Dix & Eaton, before returning to Jones Day on 1/1/04 in his present role.

Over his career he has chaired many civic organizations, served on numerous corporate Boards (including Continental Airlines and KeyCorp), and practiced antitrust, corporate takeover, and arbitration law on the national level. In recent years he has been active in the field of Higher Education, including service as Chairman of the (Ohio) Governor’s Commission on Higher Education & the Economy (2003-04).

He has been a member of the Cleveland Council on World Affairs since 1958, and was instrumental in obtaining the World Trade Center designation for Cleveland some years ago.
