The Choices Program
Offers several downloadable units on Geography, Government, International Relations/Global Studies and World History for a fee. The cost is $15 for a Teacher packet and one student packet or when ordering 15 or more student packets they are $7 a piece!
National Council for the Social Studies
The NCSS contains several ideas for teaching about culture. Teacher Resources are also available at this site for articles and lesson plans about specific cultures and global issues.
The American Forum for Global Education
This site has several lesson plans for China, Japan, Vietnam and Cambodia. They also offer several downloadable articles on a variety of global issues.
The New York Times Learning Network
The New York Times presents student, teacher, and parent connections updated daily with news summaries, daily news quizzes, daily lesson plans, parent conversation starters, and more.
Peace Corps World Wise Schools
Offers several resources and lesson plans for specific countries along with educating from a global perspective.
World Affairs Council Washington DC has several regional lesson plans that are made by teachers in the DC area.
EPals provides safe communication between students in the U.S. and from other classrooms around the globe.
Cyber School Bus – Global Teaching and Learning Project is a U.N. site, includes quizzes, games and curriculum materials for Peace Education and much more.
PBS provides great resources and some lesson plans centered on a variety of topics, including recent World History. PBS Teacher Source also has lesson plans and activities available beyond social studies topics.
Global Resources
The American Forum for Global Education provides teachers with lesson plans and activities for a broad range of countries. Visit the general resources section for lots of information concerning.
CIA World Factbook allows users to search by country for information on demographics, geography, climate, population, history, government, etc.
Library of Congress Country Studies provides a specific look at each of the world’s countries. Pay attention to the date in which the material was published, as many of the studies may now be outdated.
Southern Center for International Studies
offers a high quality 9-part in Transition Series including Africa, Europe, East Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Russia and other Soviet Republics. Each series contains maps, charts, tables, videos, lesson plans and activities. Resources are continually updated.
The San Francisco Council on World Affairs offers resources spanning the world by region. The Web Resources and Resource Library are extremely helpful to find information by country or region!
Teaching Tolerance promotes tolerance between cultures. Activities and resources can be downloaded for free online.
Multicultural Pavilion provides great resources for teachers that include lessons, activities, teaching styles, etc. Visit the teacher’s corner for lots of useful information.
A Window to the World: Internet Resource Guide provides a extensive lists of resources for Latin America, Russia and Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia.
The International and Resource Network is open to all teachers and students at a school once a school joins. Provides resources for all age levels and disciplines. All iEARN projects involve a final “product” or exhibition of the learning that has taken place as part of the collaboration.
Yale Global Online
