NATO in 2012: Chicago Summit and Lessons Learned from Afghanistan and Libya

In May 2012, leaders from around the world will gather in Chicago for the 2012 NATO summit. Join us on March 1, 2012 and get a preview of what is ahead for NATO in 2012 and learn about the new NATO strategic concept to be unveiled there. Carsten Søndergaard, Permanent Representative of Denmark to NATO, will speak about NATO’s reform and especially about lessons learned in Libya and Afghanistan.

About Carsten Søndergaard
Carsten Søndergaard has been the Danish Ambassador to NATO since 2010. Denmark has been one of NATO’s founding members and remains an active member, with 750 soldiers in Afghanistan, concentrated in Helmand province. Before his NATO engagement, Carsten Søndergaard was the Danish Ambassador to Germany (2005 to 2010), which is the country’s largest trading partner. Among his many appointments, Søndergaard also served as the Danish Ambassador to Turkey (1999 to 2001) and as First Secretary to the Royal Danish Embassy in Washington DC (1983-1986).

Carsten Søndergaard is hosted by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs as part of its International Visitors Program. Each year, CCWA brings over 400 leaders from all around the world to Cleveland.
